Over UNDP
The United Nations Development Program’s (UNDP) GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP) in Suriname provides financial and technical support to non-governmental and community-based organizations (NGOs/CBOs) to address global environmental challenges while meeting local sustainable development needs. Since its launch in 1997, SGP has funded over 100 projects in the country. During its 7th Operational Phase (2021–2024), the program focuses on promoting innovative, inclusive, and scalable initiatives that foster local multi-stakeholder partnerships in priority landscapes and seascapes.
The program’s priorities include community-based conservation of ecosystems and species, sustainable agriculture and fisheries, food security and chemicals and waste management. All projects must enhance social inclusion and adhere to mandatory components such as knowledge management and results monitoring and evaluation. Grants range from USD 5,000 to 50,000, aligning with Suriname’s environmental and sustainable development goals, even as the country continues to work toward ratifying key international conventions. MSMEs working in these areas may be eligible to consult and access these grants.
